Infosys gives scholarships to 311 students in Mangalore

Mangalore August 13: "Many students drop out from their studies owing to lack of financial as well as moral support," said Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwara Rao.

Speaking after inaugurating the distribution of scholarships to students at Infosys campus here on Sunday, he said that a little bit of encouragement will take the brilliant among them to great heights.

The scholarship offered by Prerana, the social service trust of Infosys Mangalore employees along with Vidya Poshak of Dharwad, Dhrithi Foundation of Mangalore, Yakshagana Kalaranga of Udupi and the Bevinje Sridhar Kakkilaya Prathistana of Kasargod has sponsored 311 deserving and brilliant students this year under their Prathibha Poshak scheme.

He said that the students who receive the scholarships too have a responsibility to perform well and thereby encourage their sponsorers to help more needy students like them.

Infosys Foundation Vice President Naren Koduvattat said that the volunteers of Vidya Poshak and Dhrithi Foundation are doing all the leg work in identifying the deserving students and making sure that the scholarship is reaching the needy.

He said that it is a personal commitment of every sponsorer rather than just giving away some money and added that each sponsorer is free to choose the students they want to sponsor and are entitled to feedback regarding their wards progress. Another trustee of Prerana Bhaskar Chikananjundappa said that Prerana is sponsoring 253 out of the total 311 students and is spending Rs 5.2 lakhs on their sponsorship.
